What a crazy turn of events in 24 hours for OKC

[–]Pacers XcSDeadDeer 22 points 7 hours ago
Will do. They won’t be anything like the Stache Bros but I think Nurkic and Kanter will be an entertaining duo
Jesus christ. I cant believe "Where is Kawhi going" has turned into "PG traded out of OKC and Russell Westbrook may be gone too"
This is fucking nuts
[–]WizardsVswerve27 402 points 4 hours ago
Big signing for them. He can definitely give them scoring/shooting off the bench.
[–][LAL] Kobe Bryant Dongsquad420BlazeIt 62 points 9 hours ago
Definitely not where I thought this offseason was going. my expectations have certainly been subverted.
[–][OKC] Steven Adamsbasketballandpuppies 120 points 3 hours ago
...and not a total slack on defense!

[–]BullsDavidManque 19 points 2 hours ago
I'm not sure if you've watched him play this year, but he's been pretty bad on defense. You wouldn't think it based on his size and reputation as a tough dude, but he's an anemic rebounder and incredibly slow on the pick and roll. If you classify him as a Power Forward, his Defensive Real Plus-Minus currently ranks 86th in a field of 92.

Woooo we finally got somebody.
It’s a nightmare but so were 3 consecutive first round exits and nothing but 47-49 win seasons.
[–][OKC] Russell WestbrookBBallHunter 490 points 4 hours ago
[–]Nuggets loplopplop 130 points 8 hours ago
Not just somebody, probably the best buyout guy available.
Yeah exactly. Making the playoffs is great, but being capped out at a first round exit and a tax paying team is more depressing than a legit smart rebuild.

[–]Lakers nchs 12 points 8 hours ago
Oh I know, he's a great pick-up for us. But when your greatest free agent signing in franchise history is a choice between Raymond Felton or Nerlens Noel things get a little frustrating. I'm glad we got him,
They thought they would be watching from the sidelines during the Kawhi saga
[–]ThunderSoonerJDB 159 points 3 hours ago
[–]Thunder rabidbot 72 points 9 hours ago
We signed a free agent named Paul George this last summer, though.
We are used to instant devastation. Tornadoes, bombs...its in the blood.
[–]Raptors -super-hans 226 points 7 hours ago
[–]LakersNotClayMerritt 729 points 7 hours ago
Honestly I know it sucks now, but you guys benefitted huge from this situation. No way you'd have got that return for George if it didn't guarantee the Clippers Kawhi. That's a historic haul, 5 firsts, 2 good players and 2 potential pick swaps.
I will now attempt to convince myself Melo can be a useful signing off the bench.
[–]Celtics rounder55 56 points 5 hours ago
[–]Thundernuhx 323 points 7 hours ago
It's crazy to think that there's an 11 year old finishing out some summer day sucking on a freeze pop that's going to be part of this Paul George trade
Melo can be useful if you want to slow down your offense.
The Thunder pretty much were always a top10 team in pace except for the 1 season with Melo (17th in pace with fucking Russell Westbrook...)
[–]Thunder theFriendlyDoomer 30 points 4 hours ago
I mean, hopefully he's practicing his three-point shot right now. At least free-throws.
[–][OKC] Kevin Durantonewonyuan 307 points 7 hours ago
[–]NBA TheAmbitious1 47 points 9 hours ago
He can also be very useful if you want to worsen your defense.
They haven't won a playoff series since KD left. It's obviously time to break it all down and rebuild from the bottom up.
What shocks me is that if PG HADN'T asked for a trade, they were prepared to run it back with the same roster and coach next year for another 1st round exit. WB and PG are 100% in the right to not want to be playing for such a shitty FO
[–][BOS] Jaylen BrownYe_Biz 1330 points 8 hours ago
OKC finally got one, enjoy
[–][SAS] Manu Ginobili LoneStarDeMar 1450 points 9 hours ago
Yeah they really needed this honestly. Nate Duncan made a good point (even if a bit dickish) that PG requesting a trade gave them good cover to make a move that they should have done regardless. I hope they can put Russ in a good situation, he deserves it honestly.
[–][OKC] Chucky AtkinsSPAGHETTI_CAKE 536 points 8 hours ago
You down for a Morris showdown in the finals?
[–]Bucks chemthethriller 475 points 8 hours ago
I honestly thought before the PG trade and with Durant's exit and klay's injury it was a possibility they could do well this year.
[–]___OLGA___ 76 points 7 hours ago
PG vs Hayward. Which heartwarming comeback story wins?
[–]absent_name 114 points 8 hours ago
Edit: Roberson vs Smart. Which scrappy defensive anchor wins?
OKC as constructed wasn't going anywhere in the playoffs. They got blasted by Utah, Portland, and the Rockets. All in the first round. Not once did they ever face the Warriors. So whether or not the Warriors are healthy doesn't really seem to matter.
Schroeder vs rozier. Which hot scoring point guard comes out on top?
[–]Thunder uwanmirrondarrah 657 points 8 hours ago
We always think we are gonna do well. Then we play lights out, followed by horrible, followed by first round exit.
This team had so much talent but just couldn't do anything with it.
[–]ThunderJKMiles665 92 points 7 hours ago
Westbrook vs Kyrie. Who has the media most puzzled?
[–][LAL] Kobe Bryant tatancool 411 points 7 hours ago
Sounds like a coaching problem to me...
[–]CelticsINTERP0LATE 78 points 7 hours ago
Adams vs Baynes, Kiwi vs Australia
[–]Thunder AirJohnston 231 points 7 hours ago
Presti is never getting rid of Billy. Feels like he’s as untouchable as Pop
[–]Lakersbobbito18 901 points 8 hours ago
[–]Thunder Angelsoft717 215 points 7 hours ago
Lakers really getting melo aren’t they?
Which sucks because any other coach would've been fired. Whatever he's doing obviously isn't working.
[–]PelicansChrisTheMiss 436 points 8 hours ago
[–]Thunder AirJohnston 121 points 7 hours ago
couldn’t nab AD so they’re getting Muscala and Melo. 5d chess
Yup, but Presti loves him for some reason even though both our star players apparently expressed concern about him so I’ll be shocked if we actually get rid of him
[–]Knicks dougprishpreed69 40 points 7 hours ago
[–][POR] Damian LillardFamilyguy35 324 points 7 hours ago
I think he’ll actually be good as a coach for a rebuilding squad. If you guys ship westbrook I think he’d be good for a bunch of young players
Man OKC has done really nice since KD left. Really good depth pickup here and shooting. Presti is on fire rn
[–]Thunderleshius 202 points 7 hours ago
[–]radicalheadphone 1016 points 9 hours ago
Like Westbrook said after KD left, “We’re gonna be alright.”
[–]ThunderjoegrizzyV 274 points 7 hours ago
I mean, that's what sucked so fucking bad about KD just leaving.
We were already doing really nice. And yeah, obviously a big part of that was KD, but it wasn't a situation like AD in NO. We were a team that with Durant was already set up to compete for a 'ship the next 5-8 years.
[–][WAS] Bradley Beal ScaryBullfrog 93 points 10 hours ago
and he just fucking bailed. without telling anyone his plans.
this offseason is legit insane
yeah, he's a total piece of shit.
[–]Raptors JAYG567 324 points 9 hours ago
I THOUGHT WE WERE DONE WITH THIS STUFF
[–][OKC] Russell Westbrook Swish4141 1003 points 9 hours ago
[–][POR] Damian LillardFamilyguy35 84 points 7 hours ago
Fuck, I'm not ready for this :'(
I'm mostly over KD decision but its still insane to me a top 3 player literally left to join the team he lost to in grueling 7 game series a month later. Like thats crazy to think about even today.
[–]Bucks whosgeoff 1038 points 9 hours ago2
Dame literally killed the thunder
[–]ThunderKhalems 106 points 8 hours ago
Bench looking good
[–]Bulls ClaymoresRevenge 91 points 9 hours ago
He waved bye and just like that everything changed
[–]Thunder pinata26 403 points 9 hours ago
He did us a huge favor tbh
[–]Thunder Wes___Mantooth 92 points 9 hours ago
Yeah Im stoked about the PG trade. We have to wait awhile but we have a really bright future now.
[–]Money OnTheBeat 59 points 8 hours ago
Yeah a real bright future of a bunch of #25 draft picks
[–]Lakers matticans7pointO 15 points 6 hours ago
Thunder have always been a good drafting team though. And they could still get more picks/young players by trading Westbrook.
[–]Thunder kamikazeguy 110 points 10 hours ago
Thunder about to have more draft picks than the rest of the league combined.
[–]OKC Hornets TheDharmaDude 14 points 8 hours ago
And Presti is the GOAT of drafting. thunder going to be scary good in the next 5 years.
[–]Trail Blazers foofaw 221 points 8 hours ago
I think once the initial shock of all of this wears off, your fanbase will realize that you are better off in the long run. Y'all have way more directions to go in now.
But it always sucks to see your franchise player leave. Can't imagine what it would be like to lose Dame, so I feel for you guys.
[–]Celtics ssjgoat 97 points 7 hours ago
It's also possible they trade Westbrook and don't make the post season at all for the next decade. Not like OKC is a hotspot to FAs. Also if attendance goes down bad enough, the team might move.
So I don't agree with your assessment that it will be better in the long run since they may not even exist in the long run.
I want him to stay but that boy has to learn how to shoot 3s.
[–]Pacers MindofShadow 83 points 6 hours ago
What if somes picks convey late? What if those picks happen in a shit draft? What if they just miss in the draft?
Before you know it, 8 years when by and you've become the Wizards
[–]Wizards LongLongIsland 69 points 5 hours ago
[–]Celtics houseshoes93 731 points 9 hours ago
Maybe it's foolish thinking, but I've always thought Russell would retire a Thunder
[–]Mavericks throwaway25813 461 points 9 hours ago
it's not foolish at all
a few months back when dirk retired i asked this very sub about who would break Dirk's streak of 21 seasons of the same team and the most popular answer was Russ
